SAP innovation on Cloud Foundry
Ccelera support for migrating from NEO to Cloud Foundry. In the scenario of technological innovation based on Open and Shared Standards, SAP also offers its own vision by providing a new platform: Cloud Foundry.
Its open source architecture makes Cloud Foundry the ideal evolution of a platform that wants to push the boundaries of cloud computing. A few of the key traits of an open source system are technological flexibility with respect to characteristics and requirements, scalability and the possibility of continuous system improvement.
This service is offered by SAP as an evolution of previous systems, including NEO.
While continuing to support the NEO platform, SAP will no longer make it available to new customers. For this reason, the company recommended switching to the new system.
Cloud Foundry: what does it offer?
One of the advantages of switching from one platform to another is certainly the wide selection of service providers: no longer limited to SAP data centres, one can choose between Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and others.
There is also complete freedom in the choice of programming languages: we move from having Java, HTML5 and Hana XS as the only option to a BYOL (Bring Your Own Language) approach where Node.js, ABAP, Ruby, Python, etc., are made available natively, with the possibility of configuring the use of any other type of language.
How?
Through development methods accompanied by a micro-services strategy, Cloud Foundry offers benefits in terms of scalability, decoupling between the various components of its infrastructure and multiple drivers for innovation. Thanks to these, all new services and upgrades are offered by SAP directly in the platform (e.g. SAP Hana 4, IoT, Machine Learning, IRPA – Intelligent Robotic Process Automation – Workzone, etc.).
Is it just a matter of updating the licences or does the contract need to be changed?
Updating licences: in some cases, this may be a simple change from one service to its equivalent, while for others the service delivery model may change. In this latter case it will be necessary to understand how to make the switch (e.g. from the number of Java applications I need on NEO to a generic runtime on Cloud Foundry).
Who to contact for migration from NEO to Cloud Foundry?
Application support: the consultancy approach is the one that allows Ccelera to guarantee an automatic switch of applications from one platform to another, in compliance with best practices and guidelines. Depending on what is in its own landscape, the operation may in fact be reduced to a simple technical migration or may need to be revised and revisited in order to exploit the full potential of the new platform.
In this transition scenario, Ccelera is positioned as a key advisor and support in the migration from one platform to another, offering all the necessary skills and experience in both NEO and Cloud Foundry environments.
